Mike Malone makes his Barkada Podcast premiere on Episode 32!
Mike shares where he was born and how he moved around the country and the state of Wisconsin, before settling in Oshkosh where he currently resides. He shares his experiences during those moves and how his family ultimately ended up in the area.
Mike talks about how he got into playing drums and found out that he was also a fellow saxophone player. Mike gets into who were his major influences were while being in school and how he ended up going to school in Eau Claire.
Shout out to my family out in Winnipeg as we both share some stories about that city stemming off a conversation of the Atlanta Thrashers, moving to become the Winnipeg Jets.
We talk about his experiences playing in different groups around North America with the Glenn Miller Orchestra and around Europe for a cruise ship gig with Celebrity, where he shared some nice experiences with Filipino workers onboard.
Water City Jazz Orchestra is one of the groups that we were both involved in bringing to life with our friend Kurt Shipe. Manila provided them an opportunity to have a place for them to play and now they currently play every last Monday at Fletches in Downtown Oshkosh!
Pocket Kings and Stuck on Blue are his other groups that he’s involved with.
Mike talks about his YouTube videos and how one of his drum transcripts for a Silk Sonic has close to 500,000 views. He also shares that he teaches from his home studio and how the world of technology has helped work with his students through the pandemic.
